On my walk through the park yesterday (12/29/2010) I saw this hawk sitting in the water, in the shallow pool just north of Azalea pond. I'm not sure what kind it is--it's about 15-16 inches from head to tail. Maybe a young Cooper's?It didn't see to be in any distress, and it wasn't really bathing (ducked its head under a couple of times in the half-hour I was watching), just ... sitting.I have no idea What it was doing. The fellow who pointed him out to me though maybe he was waiting for rats to come out on the bank. Maybe he was fishing? The pool is fed from a pipe, maybe the water was warm? The hawk sat for a half hour. When we heard sirens from the West Side, he became a little agitated and called, a even-toned keee-errr.Finally he flew up into a tree and thence elsewhere. Here he's in the tree, quite damp.
